Gina Carano's professional mixed martial art career began with Muay Thai training. In 2006, she made it to the professional ranks, posting a 7-1 record under EliteXC. She faced Rosi Sexton in 2008 and won by knockout. Due to her success with MMA, she was able compete for Strikeforce's women’s champion.

Although she was never a fan of martial arts as a child, she grew up competing in swimming competitions and found herself training in Muay Thai by accident. While her brother was away at school, Joanne was forced to sit in on a Muay Thai class. She was instantly enthralled with the activities. Soon after, her mother gave her permission to take the class twice a week. She then began training her own.


After finishing a kickboxing course in college, Todd wanted to compete professionally. She turned to kickboxing because she didn't have any opportunities in her native country. She was drawn to Muay Thai because of its challenge and was even able to take over a local fighter. Todd has participated in some of the most prestigious tournaments around the globe during her time in the ring. She has a strong desire to compete professionally, but is also focusing on her day job as an aerospace engineer.

The knockouts of Gina Carano were numerous and her record of seven wins by stoppage was impressive. She was an accomplished Muay Thako competitor who had won 14 victories before she stepped into the ring. She had a career high knockout percentage of 94.8%, and it was impressive to learn that her first knockout took less than three minutes. Carano, who grew up in Las Vegas was an excellent athlete. She played softball, volleyball, and basketball. Although she did not plan to fight in the end, her high school athletic successes helped her achieve her goal.

She fought in both the strawweight and flyweight divisions, and won every fight except one by way of knockout.
