Atlanta Dream is Atlanta's professional basketball team. They are a part of the Women's National Basketball Association. They were established in 2008 as a member of Eastern Conference. The Dream performed poorly in the first two seasons. However, their 2009 season saw a change. They reached the playoffs and became the first franchise to do so. Atlanta Dream finished 2nd in Eastern Conference this season with an 18-16 record. The team was eliminated in the play-offs after they lost to Detroit Shock during the conference semifinals. The Dream will play at home against the Indiana Fever in their home opener on November 11.

During the 2011-2012 season, the Dream traded Alison Bales and Kelly Miller to the Phoenix Mercury for two first-round draft picks, the seventh and nineteenth overall picks. The team also traded Jasmine Thomas and Tamera Young to the Chicago Sky. The Dream also traded two second-round picks of the 2010 WNBA Draft (one to be named later) to the San Antonio Silver Stars.
