Varas' USMNTU20 squad is a mixture of top MLS talent with European imports. All but one of Varas' U20 players have played before in the U20 league, while a few others are regular starters with MLS clubs. However, the squad is lacking a central forward.
Revelations Cup
The U.S. Men's National Team, (USMNT), will start its Revelations Cup Tournament Mexico on Wednesday. The tournament features four U-20 world-class national teams and is held over a period of 10 days. The tournament seeks to bring people closer to some the best players and help rewrite sport history.
Varas and his squad are coming off a poor showing in their opening game of the Revelations Cup against Brazil. Varas was hired in December, and the squad only had a few training sessions prior to the competition. The squad did not score a goal. Varas stated that his players were ready for any challenge and are striving to improve.
FIFA U-20 World Cup
The FIFA U-20 World Cup for male football players is an annual tournament. The tournament is organized by FIFA and was first held in Tunisia in 1977. It was previously known by the FIFA World Youth Championship. Since then, it has been a world-famous tournament. Each team competes for a place in the tournament by qualifying at their youth championships. These are split into six groups. The next stage will be decided by the two top teams in each group. The remaining 4 teams are eliminated.
Argentina has won the tournament six times, making them the most successful country in its history. Their last title was won in Canada in 2007. Brazil, England. Ukraine.
Olympic qualifying tournament for players under 23
The Olympic qualifying tournament is held every four year for players below 23 years old. The tournament is only open to players younger than 23 years of age and is independent from the FIFA World Cup. Each country is allowed to have three wild cards above the age limit. The United States has not qualified for the tournament in three of the four years since its inception, falling to El Salvador, Canada and Mexico. The United States didn't have to forfeit any players under 23 because they were already playing on the senior national team.
Brazil, Mexico, Canada, and CONCACAF will be the opponents of the U23 team in the group stage. Costa Rica will face the U-23 team in their first group match on March 18. The next group game will be against Costa Rica on March 18. The knockout round will see the two winners advance to the finals.
Team USA vs Honduras u20
The Hondurans hope to make the most of their home advantage and qualify for Pre-World Cup. The national team had a good group stage performance, and they will be looking to continue that success in the CONCACAF U-20 qualifying rounds. The match is set to take place at the General Francisco Morazan Stadium, also known as La Bombonerita.
Honduras' last game was a 2-1 win over Panama. Marco Tulio Aceituno scored a brace in Honduras' 2-1 win over Panama. That match was won by the United States from beginning to end. The Hondurans want to continue their winning ways by eliminating their opponents.
