Annika was invited to the Colonial tournament by the PGA Tour in 2003. She became the first female to compete in a PGA Tour event, since 1945. The ShopRite LPGA Classic, which will be held in New Jersey this year, is back and open to all northeast fans. Since its inception in 1992, the event has contributed more than $19 million to local economic activity and $40 million towards various charities. Wakefern Food Corp.'s merchandising & logistics arm is also supported by the tournament.
Kingsmill not on the 2022 Schedule
The Kingsmill Resort is not included in the 2022 LPGA Tour schedule. LPGA events have been hosted on the James River course at Kingsmill since 2003. The event was originally planned for 2021 but was cancelled after Pure Silk pulled out of the agreement at the end. It is not clear what the future holds for James River Course. Kingsmill is seeking a new title sponsor for the time being.
First major women's event at Congressional Country Club
The 68th KPMG Women’s PGA Championship will be held at Bethesda's Congressional Country Club. This is the first major for women in almost a decade. The tournament's main attraction will be the Blue Course, which was recently restored. Practice rounds begin Wednesday. The tournament begins Wednesday morning with the Americans teeing off first.
