Spain's Women’s World Cup Performances

united state women soccer

After a sloppy first half against Sweden, Spain showed signs of life against the USA and a more physical style against Sweden. Jenni Hernandezo's brilliant shot was able to level the score in the nineth minute. The physicality leveled off in the second half, with Spain failing to convert several penalties and yellow cards. Megan Rapinoe scored a goal for Spain in the 76th minutes. In the last 15 minutes, the US's physical condition was clearly evident.

La Roja's performance versus the USA

La Roja was astonished by their performance against the United States. The U.S. WNT had not conceded a goal in eight consecutive competitive games, outscoring their opponents 44-0. The Spaniards' goal-scoring record is impressive, but they have grown stronger. They are a dangerous side that can exert pressure on the inexperienced U.S. goalkeeper. Their last two goals, both of which were scored by Megan Rapinoe, have been frustrating for La Roja.

They were formed against South Africa

Spain began their match against South Africa with a 4-3-3 formation. Spain's wide attackers occupied the half-spaces and created space for their fullbacks. South Africa was unable to counterattack because the midfield was very compact. With the exception of some good efforts by Amanda Mthandi (and Kgatlana), the attacking midfielders from Spain were responsible for all the goals.

Their away kit against South Africa

The Springboks were last seen wearing a red change jersey against Argentina in 2017. They also wore one blue jersey against Ireland in September 2017. This was a replica of their first ever Rugby jersey against the Irish. Asics created the red away jersey as a promotional product. It featured the Springboks and Blitzboks wearing all the colours of South Africa's flag. In the Sevens series, they wore green, white, and black.

Their performance against Sweden

Sweden beat Germany by 2-1 in quarter-finals at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. Sweden won the quarter-final and will now face France, Germany or France in the final at Wembley. The Swedish team overcame Germany's backline with their athleticism, and the game-winning goal in 48 minutes sealed victory for the hosts. Sweden won the European Championships in 1984 on penalties and hopes to repeat the feat at Wembley.

Their knockout match against Germany

Since Alexia Putellas' injury in their previous match, the Spaniards have shown remarkable form. Germany was also victorious in their last game, and has been a dominant force in the tournament. The hosts are still in good form and will be aiming for a spot in the knockout round. Germany has unfortunately lost Marie-Antoinette Catoto to injury, and France has struggled to find their feet in this tournament.
