WNBA announces AT&T WNBA All-Star list 2022
The roster of the AT&T WNBA All-Star Next Sunday was released by the WNBA. This roster includes Jewell Love, Courtney Vandersloot as well Atlanta Dream rookie Rhyne. All-Stars are selected by fans and head coaches. The WNBA's roster has the largest ever, with almost three-quarters of the players coming from each team. There are a lot of notable players missing from the game, including Elena Delle Donne, who has not played since her back surgery, and Nneka Ogwumike, who missed the Olympics because of an injury.

Noelle Quinn, the first Black head coach for the Seattle Storm
Noelle Quinn has been named the first Black head coach in the history of the Seattle Storm. Quinn joins Dallas Wings head coach Vickie Johnson as the only Black women currently leading WNBA franchises. The league also has two Black head coaches: James Wade, of the Chicago Sky, and Derek Fisher, of the Los Angeles Sparks. Quinn has an impressive resume - she played for the Los Angeles Sparks from 1997 to 2000.
Brittney Griner sentenced to nine years in a Russian penal colony
American basketball star Brittney Griner has been sentenced to nine years in a penal colony in Russia after being found guilty of drug smuggling. The multi-month-long trial has been a geopolitical flashpoint for the United States. Griner was arrested at Moscow's airport in February. Russian officials accuse her of trying to smuggle the cannabis oil into her bag. While Griner denied that she was knowingly trying to violate any laws or to have packed her vape cartridges full of cannabis oil, she did admit to it.

The LASparks has won their 500th match! Congrats! The Sparks are now tied for second in league history with three championships won. But their playoff run didn't go as planned. Recently, the WNBA made headlines for its new policy requiring its players fly on chartered planes to travel for games. Although it is claimed that the NBA would prohibit this, the WNBA has different rules than the NBA. Moreover, the WNBA does not share revenue with the NBA. Charter flights are not an issue that the WNBA is the only professional league in the United States. Charter flights have also been a source of controversy in Major League Soccer.

New season of the WNBA aims at raising money for charities
The new season of the WNBA aims at raising funds to support nonprofits. Players have been active advocates for social justice, and they have played a significant role in a variety of organizations. Former Houston Comets star Cheryl Swoopes is one such advocate. Two nonprofits were founded by the former WNBA player who won four championships.
