Alex Mazdzer earned a Silver Medal in PyeongChang. That is the highest medal ever won by an American man in single lame at an Olympic Games. Mazdzer was not expected to win a medal in PyeongChang, but his performance matched the best finish in USA Luge's history. He didn't claim to the be the favorite but he believes he can run four clean races in PyeongChang. Mazdzer has won medals in four of the last years by relying on his mental side.
Shiffrin is the top female slalom skier
Even though Mikaela has only just turned 20 and is not a great performer in Super-Gs, she has already established herself as a star in the sport. Shiffrin won the first round against Slovakia and finished her first slalom race. In the second round against Slovakia, Germany, and Italy, Shiffrin was unable to finish the race. Still, she finished all three races and congratulated her teammates. In her Olympic debut she became the second female to compete at all six Alpine events. A feat she shared with Petra Vlhova of Czech Republic in 2018.
Since 2011, Chock & Bates have competed together
Chock and Bates have been competing together since 2011. Since their meeting in 2011, they have been a winning team and have had some success. They were sixth in the 2017 World Championships after competing at the Grand Prix Final. Chock finished second and Bates first at the U.S. Championships. Out of their World Championships success, Chock and Bates won the U.S. Championships a total of eight times.
