
USA has a long history in supporting female sports teams. Biney, Schmitt or Edwards are just a few examples of female athletes who have made a name for themselves in the world of sports. There are still some women athletes who deserve special recognition, despite the many victories for women's teams. Let's look at some more noteworthy ones. Biney
Maame Bijny, an American short track speedskater, won bronze in the Women’s Short Track event of the 2018 Winter Olympics. Schmitt
Allison Schmitt was one of America's most decorated female athletes. After the 2012 Olympic Games her national team was cut and she was not invited to the world championships. She suffered from depression. She was even able to fall into deep depression. She couldn't compete in the 2016 Olympic trials, and she even considered driving off the road. She returned to swimming in the US and was again crowned a champion.
Vollmer
Dana Whitney Vollmer is an Olympic gold medalist five times and a former world record holder at the swimming competition. In the 2004 Summer Olympics, she set a new world record. She was also awarded the Olympic bronze medal in the event and the bronze at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Formerly a college swimmer, she trained hard for years to be a world class competitor. Joyner-Kersee
Jacqueline Joyner Kersee, USA is a retired track-and-field athlete who has won four Olympic medals including three golds, two silvers and one bronze. She is the greatest long jumper in history and an outstanding heptathlete. She was awarded the 1984 Olympic long jump title. Joyner Kersee won the 1996 silver medal in long jump.
Evans
Aja Evans, bobsledder, was an Olympic medalist with Team USA. She also serves as a brakeman for the bobsled. She was raised in Chicago where she was an All-American shotputter and a track-and-field City Champion. Evans won the shot throw title and was All-American in track. Her Olympic performance came after she joined the bobsled team in 2012.
Voisin
Maggie Voisin is an American female athlete who is part of the U.S. Olympic Team this year. After suffering a fractured leg, she missed 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. After breaking her leg, Voisin returned to competition at the 2018 Winter Olympics. However, she missed the podium because of a torn left ACL. Voisin was unable to compete for eight years due to the injury, but Voisin is back.
Retton
In 2004, Retton was a member of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, an organization created by the U.S. government to increase physical activity and encourage Americans of all ages to participate in sports. The United States Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Public Health and Science manages the council. Retton assisted in dropping the bill's sponsor, even though it was not made into law.
