2022 WNBA season (26th) will mark the 26th anniversary of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). The Chicago Sky will be the defending champions. There will be 36 regular season games per team - which is the most in a single WNBA year.

Chicago Sky wins WNBA league season

Parker, who is from Naperville, Ill., returned home to the Chicago Sky after 13 seasons with the Los Angeles Sparks and was a key part of the Sky's title run. She was the missing piece for the team and was confirmed to be so in the final game. Griner was the offensive center for Phoenix, scoring 28 point, 18 of them in the first-half. Skylar and her teammate Skylar diggins-Smith led the team to a 9th-quarter run.

Seattle Storm a perennial contender

The defending WNBA champions the Seattle Storm are currently in the midst a rebuilding phase. In 2010, they won the championship on the shoulders of an ageless Sue Bird and dominant Australian stretch-5 Lauren Jackson. The standings fell due to Jackson's absence. Storm didn't stop them from drafting players in the 2015 & 2016 drafts.


Chicago Mercury a deep playoff contender

The Mercury made several trades during the off-season, which should allow them to improve on last season's performance. The team received Bridget Pettis and Jillian Alleyne as well as Kim Smith and the 13th pick from the 2012 draft. They also acquired two players in WNBA Draft, and a first-round selection in the 2013 draft from Minnesota Lynx. They also traded first round picks to the Minnesota Lynx, Los Angeles Sparks, and Temeka John. In return, Mercury received a second-round draft pick in 2013 and a third-round draft pick from New York Liberty.

Washington Mystics' Elena Delle Danone

Washington Mystic Elena Delle Donne: The two-time WNBA Champion will begin her fourth season with Washington Mystic. She averaged over 20 point per game in the regular season and ranked third in playoffs with an average field goal percentage of 50.8%. For the sixth consecutive year, she was named to the All-Star team. She was the leader of Washington Mystics to their first WNBA Championship. She also helped set a number of franchise and WNBA records.

Chelsea Gray, Chicago Mercury

Despite being passed over for her fifth straight All-Star nod, Gray's teammates have seen a transformation in the Chicago Mercury's star point guard. She is now one of the top players in the league, making big plays all the time and leading her team's 4-0 record.

Seattle Storm's Sue Bird

Sue Bird, who had been considering quitting the WNBA in 2021, announced her intention to continue playing on Instagram. She will play for a veteran minimum salary of $72,141 and receive bonuses and endorsements. Bird spoke to her team during Wednesday's dinner. Bird spoke to friends and former teammates. In 2002, Storm drafted her. She later spoke to General Manager Karen Bryant who was her first boss.
