She is also a role example for women involved in sports.
Lindsey Vonn, who was born in Minnesota, began skiing early. At the age of seven, she began competing in races and later made it to international competitions. She competed in World Junior Championships, World Cup events, becoming a World Cup champ in 2004. Vonn was awarded the overall World Cup title in 2008, and again in 2010.
Michelle Kwan
Michelle Kwan's interest in figure skating began at a young age. At the age of five, she followed her older sister on the ice and fell in love with it. Danny and Estella Kwan, her parents, were immigrants from Hong Kong, China. The Kwans met at a reunion of school. Her father worked for the telephone company and her mother ran the Golden Pheasant restaurant in Torrance, California. Michelle started serious training at age eight. She would practice for between three and four hours per day. The time commitment was so high that her family had difficulty paying for it.
Kwan hired Rafael Arutyunyan in 2003 as her coach. The pair skated to "The Feeling Begins" in the short program and "Tosca” in the long program. Kwan tied Maribel Vison-Owen's record of nine titles in U.S. ladies' figure skating at the U.S. Championships. Kwan qualified for Turin's Olympic Games the following year. However, at the World Championships, Kwan fell on a triple salchow and two-footed a triple lutz.

Cari Champion is a well-known broadcast journalist in the sports world. She is the anchor of the noon edition on ESPN's flagship broadcast show, and she hosts the Be Honest podcast with Cari Champion.
